Reinventing the mining industry one step at a time

By  I-SENSE Group of ICCS

The rapid advancement of technology is revolutionising various industries, and the mining sector is no exception. In recent online meetings organised by the I-SENSE Group of ICCS and other partners the groundbreaking modules CYBERMINE and METAMINE were introduced to end-users. Let's delve into the key highlights from these meetings and discover how CYBERMINE and METAMINE are set to reshape the future of mining.

CYBERMINE: Empowering mines with cutting-edge technology

The I-SENSE Group of ICCS hosted an online meeting dedicated to the CYBERMINE Module. During this session, representatives from I-SENSE Group of ICCS, CORE IC and LIBRA showcased the module's features and outlined its benefits to MASTERMINE end-users. The CYBERMINE module spearheads the digital transformation of EU Mine 4.0 and aims to equip mines with state-of-the-art systems for data collection and exchange by incorporating advanced systems such as WiFi 6 Connectivity, Data Warehousing & Cloud Infrastructure, MLOps, and data mapping. By seamlessly collecting and sharing information on critical parameters, CYBERMINE facilitates
decision-making processes and enhances overall operational efficiency within mines.

METAMINE: Pioneering the "Mining Metaverse"

The METAMINE informational meeting was held online, organised by DigitalTwin Technology. ICCS participated in the meeting along with partners from LIBRA and DigitalTwin Technology and presented METAMINE’s module’s features to the end-users.

METAMINE is introducing the “mining metaverse” of the EU mines, which involves creating 3D Digital Twins of the mines as well as an immersive Business Intelligence system, based on virtual control rooms and interactive dashboards. These tools will be integrated into a Mixed Reality (MR) application, providing remote monitoring of mine areas and increasing the spatial awareness of users.

A visit to TERNA MAG: Collaboration for research progress

The I-SENSE Group of ICCS had the privilege of visiting TERNA MAG’s facilities in Fourni, Evia. The visit focused on gaining insights into the operations of TERNA MAG's ore factories, particularly the Kakavos and Gerorema facilities. The TERNA personnel provided a comprehensive presentation on the existing sorting and material enrichment processes. Additionally, the meeting served as an opportunity to discuss the progress and future requirements of specific tasks. These discussions aimed to establish a common ground for further research steps and foster collaboration between the involved parties.
