Breaking ground: MASTERMINE spotlighted at ROBOMINERS conference

By STRATAGEM LTD

The MASTERMINE project took center stage at the final conference of the ROBOMINERS project, themed “The future of mining in Europe – Minimising the environmental footprint through breakthrough technological innovations” on Tuesday, 14 November 2023.

AURORA GEO Consulting, represented by its founder Kostas Botsialas, played a pivotal role in showcasing the MASTERMINE project. The latter, along with ROBOMINERS and other projects, has joined forces through a clustering initiative.

The conference, held in a hybrid format, coincided with the EU Raw Materials Week in Brussels. MASTERMINE’s project coordinator, Isaac Nadal from ITAINNOVA and Stavroula Panagiotidou from partner STRATAGEM Ltd joined the conference online.

The conference aimed to present the key outcomes of the ROBOMINERS project and facilitate discussions on the technological future of mining in Europe.

Representatives from various EU-funded projects explored promising technological developments to minimize the environmental impact of mineral extraction, underscoring the significance of EU research in this domain.

Structured as a discussion panel, Kostas Botsialas, leveraging his expertise as a Geologist/Hydrogeologist Engineer, provided valuable insights into mitigating geohazards in the mining industry and civil protection. Furthermore, MASTERMINE’s perspective on sustainable mining through the development of innovative technologies was articulated during the proceedings.
